I continue to tell myself that I have seen so much that nothing will ever surprise me. As you would expect, however, I continually get surprised.
According to a recent article by Richard Wilson one senior executive at a major contract manufacturer told him that up to 90% of his customers claim they do not need RoHS complinat assembly becasue they are exempt.
Choke! Exemptions were only given when there was not deemed to be a technical alternative ready or when human safety could be threatened by the lack of reliability data supporting RoHS compliant assembly (e.g. medical devices or monitoring or control instrumentation). These prodcuts make up probably less than 10% of all of electronics.
July 1, 2006 will be very interesting indeed.
Cheers,
Dr. Ron
