The day had finally arrived - my first day of Indium Corporation’s 2023 Internship! I woke up to my 6:30am alarm to hurriedly get ready and get to the office. With a mix of anticipation and excitement, I hopped into my car and navigated the familiar roads of Clinton, leaving behind the comfort of my childhood home for the uncharted territory of my very first internship. However, as soon as I stepped into the Indium Corporation office, any lingering nerves vanished. I was greeted by my new supervisor, Kim DeRuby, who welcomed me with a warm hug. This was the first sign of the kindness and welcoming spirit of the Indium Corporation family.

We kicked off the day with an extensive orientation session aimed at preparing us for the ten weeks ahead. As the Marketing Communications intern, it was initially challenging for me to grasp Indium Corporation’s products and processes. But through wonderful presentations by company experts, I found myself better understanding the workings of Indium Corporation.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the day was the lunch prepared by Indium Corporation’s very own chef. The theme revolved around Utica flair, featuring Utica greens (a must!), chicken riggies (my personal favorite), tomato pie, salads, mac and cheese, and the truly remarkable Holland Farm’s half-moon cookies. It was an amazing lunch with all the best local cuisine!

Following lunch, Kim led me on a tour of the office, introducing me to various employees along the way. Each person graciously shared their invaluable insights and tips on how to excel during the internship. I even made a note of several quotes I found particularly helpful, and emblematic of the Indium Way- respect, appreciation, and achievement! It was definitely a busy day of fun, learning, and meeting new people.
