Hello all, I’m Kyle Hochbrueckner. I am the Manufacturing Process Engineering Intern for Indium Corporation at their Business Park Drive facility in Utica. I have been at Indium Corporation for 4 weeks now and it has been an eye opening experience. At first, I felt overwhelmed by the new information and guidelines that we had to learn, but never have I felt so calm through this learning period as I did at Indium Corporation. This truly says something about the internship program that they have created for us.
Many of you may be wondering about our schedule for a typical day. This is one thing that I really have enjoyed about working at Indium Corporation. When I first started, I would come in at 8am, take an hour lunch, and leave at 5pm. Personally, this was not my favorite and I found that the time spent in the office after 3:30 pm was often slow and not as productive. So instead of allowing this to happen, I took the initiative to make a change! I talked to both of my supervisors and we decided that I could come in at 7:30am and take only a 30 min lunch break, which would allow me to leave at 4pm. Not only does this show how flexible Indium Corporation is, but also how much they want us to succeed and do our best work.
Now you know how my day is structured, what do I actually do? When I accepted the job at Indium Corporation I was told what my responsibilities would be. That ended up changing when I initially came into work; which was a welcome surprise. Now, I’m working on updating the Bill of Manufacture (BOM), which is a detailed list of time frames for each manufacturing procedure from start to finish. An accurate BOM allows for accurate pricing. Currently, I’m spending the majority of my time performing time studies on our packing rates for preforms.
Conducting time studies and evaluating packing rates is interesting, but what I really look forward to is the amazing, friendly atmosphere that you experience when working here. This summer (2019) there are a total of 8 interns working here. This provides us with an opportunity to develop some awesome friendships and makes work that much better. Not only are the other interns great, the entire staff is so friendly and always willing to help and talk to anytime we need it. Hopefully, this gives you a better idea of what it is like to be an intern at Indium Corporation and you’re as excited as I was to apply.
Thanks for your time, Kyle Hochbrueckner.
