Steven P. Napolitano: Who I Am

I'm Steven Napolitano and I am the 2017 Preventative Maintenance College Intern here at Indium Corporation. I am currently reporting to Senior Maintenance Manager, Brian Freiberger.

I grew up in Herkimer, NY. In high school, I was a well-rounded student who was heavily involved in athletics, technology classes, and even theatre. I hoped to be a mechanical engineer ever since I was in middle school. Upon graduating I enrolled at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. St. Lawrence University is a liberal arts school that does not offer engineering, but they do offer a 3+2 program with schools like Clarkson University, Rensselear Polytechnic Institute, University of Rochester, Dartmouth College, and Columbia University. I chose to be in this program because not only would I get to live my dream of playing college football, but I would also have the ability to get a well-rounded liberal arts education and a bachelor's degree in both Physics and Mechanical Engineering in only five years. I recently finished my third year at St. Lawrence and will be transferring to Clarkson in the fall.

As I said, I was a part of the St. Lawrence Football Team the last three years; we won the 2015 and 2016 Liberty League Conference Championship. I have always believed that a sport teaches some incredible life lessons that translate to the workplace. While at Clarkson I will not be playing my fourth year of football, I'm forever grateful for the experiences and lessons learned from playing football for St. Lawrence University.

Indium Corporation is not my first internship involving preventative maintenance. I have also interned at Custom Tool and Model Corp. (CTM) in Frankfort, NY. While they are a small precision machine shop, they have been a part of some very large projects including making the scoop on the 2008 Mars Rover.  At CTM, not only did I perform preventative maintenance for various machinery, but I also headed a project on changing the way products are inspected by using the software Inspection Xpert. Utilizing Inspection Xpert significantly reduced the time it took for finished product inspection.

Outside of school and work, I love to play and listen to music. I've been playing guitar for about three years now and I am teaching myself how to play the bass and drums. During the summer, you can catch me playing the guitar at Ole Sal's Cafe and Creamery in Little Falls, NY during their open mic nights. This summer, I'll be spending a lot of my free time with my friends and at my camp in the Adirondacks. I'm also an avid Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan.

What I hope to get out of this internship is real-life experience in the engineering field that I can apply to a future career. I consider myself very fortunate to have been chosen for this position. I look forward to being a member of Indium Corporation's team and contributing to the overall success of the company.

Throughout the summer, I will be posting weekly updates on my progress, so please keep checking back.

    Stay tuned,

    Steve
