How I Have Benefited From My Indium Corporation Internship

  • Before I joined the Indium Corporation summer internship program I had a lot to learn. As a young college student, I always felt that I had learned a lot in school and I would be well prepared when heading off to bigger and better things. But, upon entering the workforce, it's interesting to realize that, in fact, I knew nothing. When I say that "I knew nothing," I don't mean that I literally knew nothing. I mean that I didn't know what to expect. I could not anticipate what I would need to know or how to prepare for this position, and that scared yet excited me.

Throughout the first six weeks of this internship, I feel like I have done a good job learning many important skills. There is still much more to learn, but I am proud of what I have accomplished. So far, I have learned more about professionalism in the workplace, public speaking, and communication than I ever thought I would need to know. But, it has all been extremely helpful and I am grateful to Indium Corporation for giving me this opportunity.

I have been filmed by the Paige Group on multiple occasions so far and, although I was nervous at first, I realize it was beneficial. I believe my interviewing skills have improved and I have become more confident and mature when speaking both to an individual and to a group. I have also learned to communicate more efficiently and effectively. I have learned how to get my point across using few words and how to communicate with others to determine whether we understood each other thoroughly both in person and by email.

Since accepting the position as the Research and Development Intern at Indium Corporation, I believe I have grown as an individual. I have become more confident, more social, and I have matured professionally. I know that a lot of that growth is due to the amazing people I have come to know in the last six weeks. I want to thank the entire Research and Development Department, all the interns, and those in charge of this years internship program for this wonderful experience.

I Wish You All The Best,

    Jamie
