I try to take my students to dinner 3 or 4 at a time, two times a week or so. This term it will be a challenge to fit all 190 of the students in! This past Wednesday I had a large group of 7 or 8 students. Two of them, Charles Kettering IV and Elise Morrison asked if they could try pulling back my long bow. In the photo, you can see Elise during her attempt, with Charlie looking on. BTW, Charlie is just a tad sort of 6 feet 3 inches tall.
As I was talking to Charlie I asked him if people tell him all the time that he has the same name as a
famous inventor. "Yes, of course," was his reply. Then I inquired, "I assume he is no relation?" Charlie replied, "He was my great great grandfather."
Noting that Elise was quite tall, at dinner we asked her if she played any sports. That she played basketball was not too surprising. She failed to point out, however that she was Ivy League Rookie of the year as a Freshman and a cornerstone of Dartmouth's successful 2004-2005 season.
Yes, teaching at Dartmouth is interesting!
Cheers,
Dr. Ron
