This is the first of a 4 part series on corrosion to cover: 1) What corrosion is, 2) How it affects us, 3) Sources of corrosion and prevention, and 4) How to learn more.
Corrosion comes in 3 basic varieties. Pitting, stress cracking, and galvanic corrosion are forms of deterioration that change the properties of a pair of metals through an electrochemical reaction. Rust can be seen all around us in everyday life, although a very similar corrosion can happen if we aren’t careful how we build semiconductor packages. Check out tomorrow's post to learn what corrosion can do if left unchecked.
